Tell Your Children - Joel 1
“Tell your children about it, let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.”
Joel 1:3
Have you ever stopped to think about how many times the Bible talks about sharing the messages of God in the Bible with our children? This particular passage is telling us to tell of the judgments that God passed and the consequences of not following him.
In Deuteronomy we have a passage telling us to tell our children of the teachings of God all the day long. (Deuteronomy 6)
At different times in the Old Testament the Children of God were told to make a monument and use it as a reminder. Then when future generations asked about the monument they were to explain the things God had done.
The Proverbs lead us to see the importance of a father and mother teaching the Godly way to their children.
Jesus allowed the children to come to Him. I can only imagine what He might of taught them.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 5 and other places about the importance of the father’s spiritual leadership in a family setting.
Timothy was reminded of the faith that was taught him by both his mother and grandmother.
The Bible from beginning to end shows the importance of PARENTS sharing their faith with their children. This is not the job of the youth minister or the preacher. This is not the job of the children’s ministry or the Sunday School teacher. This is the job of the PARENT.
So, if you are a parent or grandparent, my question to you is: What are you talking about with your kids? What are you teaching them?
They know what team you root for. They know what food you like. They know what you think about the President. But what have you taught them about God and his Word?
Why not take some time today, pull out the Bible, open it up, and teach your kids about what God has done?
